Waldorf resident Melvin Emell Lampkin, 28, and Keymo Kemytte-William Key, 27, of Accokeek in Prince George’s County were arrested on Monday, Aug. 22 following a traffic stop where a member of the Charles County Sheriff's Office located a suspicious handgun inside their vehicle.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon, a member of the Charles County Sheriff's Office stopped Lampkin near the intersection of Leonardtown Road and St. Charles Parkway in Waldorf for a traffic violation.

During the stop, authorities said that it was determined that the driver had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to make a previous court appearance.

Further, officials said that a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and other narcotics was observed on the console of the vehicle and there was a loaded firearm on the floor near Lampkin and Key’s feet.

Both Key - who was a passenger in the car - and Lampkin are prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, according to the sheriff's office.

Both men were arrested without incident and charged with:

  • Illegal possession of a firearm;
  • Illegal possession of ammunition;
  • Illegal transportation of a firearm;
  • Loaded handgun in the car;
  • “Other (related) charges,” according to the sheriff.

Lampkin is being held without bond and Key was released under the condition he does not have access to any other firearms. No return court information has been announced.
